Owning a Bracco

The Bracco Italiano is not the ideal dog for a first time dog owner. While they are loyal and affectionate, they are also a large breed that needs ample exercise and mental stimulation to be truly happy. The breed is intellegent and demonstrative, but someone who has worked with dogs before would have more success in training one since they can be stubborn at times. They get along well with other dogs - they are actually happier with canine companionship. When raised with them, bracchi should be fine with non-canine pets. They are good with children, but can accidentally knock down toddlers. They can be protective, but usually never give more than a warning bark. Bracchi are very playful. They are not a good dog for someone who lives in an apartment - they need their space and preferably room to run around. The place a Bracco would most like to sleep is in his owner's bed. They should not be kept strictly outside. They have a short coat and do not tolerate extremely cold weather very well. As with most dogs, they can become overheated. Simple precautions can be taken to avoid this. The Bracco Italiano is a great breed to own, but is not perfect for everyone. Look in the maintenance section to find out what everyday care a Bracco requires.

Your dog's breeder is the best place to look if you have any questions. They will have in depth knowledge about the breed, and probably your dog in particular. They should be willing to help you along with your dog and offer you solid advice.
